Children’s Sleep Service

Sleep problems can happen to all children, but they're even more common in neurodivergent children and young people.

Lack of sleep can have a huge impact on your child or young person's development, mood, behaviour, and their ability to learn.

If you have tried all the usual recommended good sleep routines, accessed online or local child sleep service (see links below) and your child continues to struggle then a trial of medication such as melatonin may be helpful.

However, please note I will only consider Melatonin if your child has a formal diagnosis or ADHD or Autism or where a neurodevelopmental condition is highly suspected but waiting for an assessment and you have tried all the usual recommended strategies - see link below.

I always assess sleep as part of a general neurodevelopment assessment. This essentially means gathering lots of information about your child and thinking about sleep issues in context. I will also need to ensure that there is no alternative medical or neurological cause by face to face appointment and completing my ND / Sleep questionnaire.

I will also need a 2 week sleep diary to be completed by using the SNappD app. You can download it from here LINK

In the first place I would recommend emailing me so I can share the necessary forms to complete at admin@manchesterpaediatrician.com
